Jerome J. Cushman taught, choreographed, directed, and led workshops for more years than he will admit. Since 1974 he has worked at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the performing arts and the Department of Cultural and Creative Studies.
For the past 18 years Cushman’s interest has taken him into the world of haiku as a writer, theoretician and performer. In 2000 he originated and co-ordinated the R.F. Panara Haiku Contest for NTID students and deaf college students at the Tsukuba College of Technology in Japan. Because of the success of this contest he has visited Japan 5 times to study and share in the Japanese haiku experience. In 2004 he helped to reestablish the Rochester Area Haiku Group which has monthly meetings and readings. He is also an active member of the Haiku Society of America (HNA) . His works have been printed in a variety of books and magazines.
Dennis Maloney is a poet and translator. He has published several volumes of translations from Japanese, these include Dusk Lingers: Haiku of Issa; Tangled Hair: Poems of Yosano Akiko; and Between the Floating Mist: Poems of Ryokan.
